South Knoxville has over 56.05 miles of paved greenways which often follow natural land or water features. They link nature preserves, parks' cultural features, and historic sites with each other and with population areas. Greenways link neighborhoods to these facilities and to other neighborhoods.





Charter Doyle Greenway
5100 W Martin Mill Pike, Knoxville, TN Map & Directions

Charter Doyle Greenway is a 0.4 mile asphalt loop that surrounds the green space, playground, and tennis courts in Charter Doyle Park. It is used for walking, running, bicycling, walking leashed dogs, skating, pushing strollers, using wheelchairs, and roller blading. The greenway also connects to a new feature, the PetSafe Dog Park within Charter Doyle Park. Restrooms and parking are available.

Charter Doyle Park also features the unpaved, 0.1 mile Mildred Doyle trail, which roams through a wooded area within the park.


Community Unity Greenway

This is a 0.6 mile asphalt greenway used for walking, running, bicycling, walking leashed dogs, skating, pushing strollers, using wheelchairs, roller blading, and skateboarding. It is located adjacent to the Montgomery Village Housing Area.


Fort Dickerson Greenway and Trails

This is a 0.9 mile crushed gravel greenway used for walking, running, bicycling, walking leashed dogs, pushing strollers, and using wheelchairs. Parking is available.

The greenway begins from a small gravel lot on Augusta St. It goes through wooded canopies and along the edge of Fort Dickerson Quarry's cliffs until it reaches the quarry water's edge. You will experience breath-taking vistas. The greenway is flat except for an optional extra loop that ventures along extra lengths of the cliffs.

The Fort Dickerson Trail was designed primarily for mountain bikers by the Appalachian Mountain Bike Club and is quite steep in brief sections. It is open to hikers and is not a route to miss if you enjoy mountain hiking experiences. The trail begins near the parking lot access to Fort Dickerson Greenway off of Augusta St. and ends at the top of the Civil War fort, which is accessible to cars from Chapman Highway.


Gary Underwood Greenway

This 0.8 mile asphalt greenway is used for walking, running, bicycling, walking leashed dogs, skating, pushing strollers, using wheelchairs, and roller blading. Parking is available in Gary Underwood Park.


Howard Pinkston Greenway
7752 Martin Mill Pike, Knoxville, TN Map & Directions

This .50 mile greenway begins at French Memorial Park, 7752 Martin Mill Pike, and connects the park to the Howard Pinkston branch library, and Bonny Kate Elementary School.  Parking is available at the park and the school.


I.C. King Park
3440 Alcoa Highway, Knoxville, TN Map & Directions

The greenway has over 5 miles of natural trails for hiking and mountain biking.  Parking is available at the park entrance at 3440 Alcoa Highway.


Ijams Nature Center Trails
2915 Island Home Ave., Knoxville, TN Map & Directions

This is a 10 mile natural path greenway is used for walking, running, bicycling, and walking leashed dogs. Restrooms and parking are available.

Ijams Nature Center is a 275-acre wildlife sanctuary and natural area featuring 10 miles of natural surface trails plus a stretch of paved Greenway. All of the trails are hiker friendly, although 3.5 miles incorporating Mead's Quarry and the Ross Marble Natural Area serve both hikers and mountain bikers.

Trail maps are available at the Visitor Center for $1. Ijams offers beautiful landscapes featuring trails, woodlands, meadows, ponds, and an extensive boardwalk along the Tennessee River bank.


Knox/Blount Greenway
Knoxville, TN (Address TBA) Map & Directions

This greenway is being developed. It will be a 2.1 mile greenway used for walking, running, bicycling, walking leashed dogs, skating, pushing strollers, using wheelchairs, and roller blading. The pedestrian bridge on the east side of the Buck/Karnes Bridge is complete. Parking will be available at Marine Park on Alcoa Highway.

The initial phase of the Knox/Blount Greenway will connect Neyland Greenway via a pedestrian bridge on the Buck/Karnes Bridge which will cross the Tennessee River. and continuing along the bank of the Tennessee River through the University of Tennessee's Cherokee Farms. The first phase will end at Marine Park on Alcoa Hwy.

Future plans call for the Knox/Blount Greenway to connect to the Alcoa-Maryville combined greenway system and eventually through Townsend to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.


Mary Vestal Greenway

This 0.4 miles asphalt greenway is used for walking, running, bicycling, walking leashed dogs, skating, pushing strollers, using wheelchairs, and roller blading. There are restrooms and water fountains. Parking is available at Mary Vestal Park and the South Knoxville Community Center.


Sam Duff Greenway

This is a 0.25 mile asphalt greenway used for walking, running, bicycling, walking leashed dogs, skating, pushing strollers, using wheelchairs, and roller blading. Restrooms and parking are available in Sam Duff Memorial Park.
